RidgefieldTalks Newsletter - August 2003
In case you haven’t heard about having your phone number removed from call lists, go to the web and visit: http://donotcall.gov
Realtors who use lists of names to make cold calls will be restricted on whom they can telephone when a new federal law goes into effect on Oct. 1, 2003. The complex law will prevent, in most cases, Realtors as well as other telemarketers from calling residents who signed up for the “Do Not Call” list .
As of this week, about 20 million Americans put their names on the list. FYI, in order to keep all the new real estate agents busy, most agencies in town hold “calling nights” to entice the new agents to try to solicit homes for sale. When you are selling your home, look carefully at the experience or lack of it when choosing an agent.
Also, if you know anyone who is thinking of buying or selling a home, I would love to hear from you. I’m celebrating my 25th year in real estate here in Ridgefield this year. Personal referrals are an important part of my business.
Four major credit bureaus in the US (Equifax, etc.) will be allowed to release credit info, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc. to ANYONE who requests it.
If you do not want to be included in the release of your personal credit information, you can call 1-888-567-8688. Once the message starts, you will want option # 2 (even though option # 1 refers to this email, push # 2) and then option # 2. Be sure to listen closely, the first option is only for a two-year period. Make sure you wait until they prompt for the option, which opts you out FOREVER. You should receive their paperwork in the mail confirming the “opting out” in less than one week after making the call.
Some more helpful news! In talking with some seniors citizens, we came across some interesting reports on drug prices. Costco.com is on line and you can compare prices and do not have to be a member in order to buy in their pharmacy. They seem to be much cheaper than even Canada.
Housing here has continued to do well, however I expect it will slow down some with the Fall. Fortunately rates are still lower than last year and are at a 45 year low. Also, some facts are easier to send out by email, such as my suggestions above. If you would like to be on my email list just send me your address at annescott [at] ridgefieldrealestate dot com.
